The new design, created by Adolph A. Weinman, featured a portrait of Liberty wearing a winged cap. Because of the resemblance to the Roman god, Mercury, the coin became known as the 'Mercury' Dime. The reverse blends a Roman fasces (ax surrounded by a tied bundle of sticks) and an olive branch, symbolizing The United States' military readiness but also the desire for peace. This collection includes one from each year of the last decade they were minted from 1936 to 1945.
